Three ABFSU Executive Members Arrested and Already Imprisoned for Over a Year for Activities for Rakhine Affairs and Anti-War Activities Given Long Prison Sentences

On December 30, Mandalay region’s Aung Myay township court sentenced three students of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions on state defamation sections.

ABFSU students, Ko Phone Myint Kyaw was sentenced to two years in prison on state defamation section 505(a)(b), Ko Kyaw Thiha Ye Kyaw to one year on 505(a)(b) and Ko Soe Hla Naing to one year on 505(a)(b) respectively.

During the court appointment, Ko Kyaw Thiha Ye Kyaw is reported to have said, “Until the military dictatorship is eradicated, ABFSU student youths will still be prisons and home floors. We have to be always resisting against the military dictatorship”, said ABFSU information officer.

The three were arrested in 2020 September for their activities for Rakhine affairs; they were sued and given prison sentences on sections of Peaceful Assembly and Peaceful Procession Law, state defamation and Natural Disaster Management Law.

Till today, Ko Phone Myint Kyaw has been sentenced to three years, Ko Kyaw Thiha Ye Kyaw and Ko Soe Hla Naing to eight years and two months each in prison.

It has been observed that the terrorist military-controlled courts have given respective prison sentences to arrested ABFSU students, state heads, activists and artists at the end of December.
