At Htet Myat Hle IDP camp in Ponnagyun Tonwship of Rakhine State, the 4th Mro New Year Day was celebrated on January 17 beginning at past 8 in the morning.
According to Mro custom, the festival includes Mro traditional dance and is celebrated after harvest time is over.
The ceremony was attended by the Thet, Diangnet, Rakhine peoples and some of the administration bodies of Arakan People’s Authority also gave some donations.
The Mro New Year’s Day was celebrated at Van Pui village and Wartaung IDP camp after being halted for two years due to wars and Covid and it was resumed this year.
In Rakhine, there is only a minority of the Mro and they mainly live in Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Kyaukdaw and Ponnagyun townships.
